FAQ’s:

Which Undertile Heating Systems do I need ?

Heating Mats:
Mats are available in outputs of 150 or 200 w/m² and a large range of sizes allows you to select the ideal underfloor heating system whatever your room dimensions.
Mats carry the heating elements already spaced out and fixed onto a strong fibreglass mesh with a uniform spacing to give evenly distributed heat. The mats are 500mm wide and most installations can be completed in a short time due to the ease of rolling out the matting side by side. Heating elements are thin to provide a low profile in the floor.

150w/m² or greater is suitable for use beneath tile and stone coverings in any room in a well insulated property. 200w/m² underfloor heating mats offer a quicker warm up time than 150w/m² and are suitable for use beneath tile and stone coverings, where they can provide primary heating in most rooms, including conservatories, especially when used in conjunction with a 6mm layer of Jackoboard insulation board prior to installing the heating mat. In rooms with fixed units such as in kitchens and bathrooms we recommend 200w/m².

How do I select the correct heating kit ?
It is important you do not select a mat or cable that is too large for your room. The heating element cannot be cut therefore always select a mat or cable size that is around 10% less than the actual floor area you are heating.
User friendly installation instructions are supplied to ensure the installer has the information required to complete a satisfactory installation compliant with the Regulations. The cold lead power connection is 100% steel armoured for safety and 3 (three) metres long. The length of connection lead is important as it helps the installer, adding extra design flexibility when laying out the mat on the floor, and provides sufficient connection lead to reach the electrical supply position / thermostat.
Be careful ! Avoid mats with shorter connection leads ( 2m or 2.5m) and with no steel armouring. Always check before purchasing. The maximum single mat size is 12m² so for many installations two or more mats will be required. This will make it even more important to ensure you have mats with 3 (three) metres long connections leads in order to make the job easier for the installer.
Can you connect more than 1 mat to a thermostat?
Yes you can, but please observe the following: The maximum single mat size is 12m² so for many installations two or more mats will be required. This will make it even more important to ensure you have mats with 3 (three) metres long connections leads in order to make the job easier for the installer.THERMOMAT is rated at 16 amps and you are advised  to observe this rating and recommend a maximum loading of 3,600 watts can be connected direct to each control. Two or more mats used in the same control zone can be wired together electrically in parallel – to simplify installation make sure the mats have 3 metres long connection leads. Ask your installer as he will understand this important point. Should you wish to control a larger area with a single thermostat and the amperage exceeds the limit of the thermostat a contactor can be supplied to work in conjunction with the thermostat. If in doubt please consult Thermomat for help.
How wide are the mats ?
The mats are 500mm wide and most installations can be completed in a short time due to the ease of rolling out the matting side by side. For example, a 10m² mat would be supplied on a roll 20 metres long. The mat is rolled out across the room, at the end of the room you cut and flip it over and roll back alongside the mat the other way. Heating elements are thin to provide a low profile in the floor. Mats carry the heating elements already spaced out and fixed onto a strong fibreglass mesh with a uniform spacing to give evenly distributed heat. Can a Thermomat heating system be the sole source of heat ?
Yes, they certainly can, but watch out for those older properties with little or no insulation. Each case is different and depends on the ‘u’ values, room size, air movement, volume and position of the room.
What wattage do i need?
150w/m² or greater is suitable for any standard room in a well insulated property.
